Take Action for Safe Rural Water
Organizing, building power, and winning ground in the fight for safe drinking water in eastern Oregon’s Lower Umatilla Basin.
TAKE ACTION
Our Fight for Safe Water
For decades, Eastern Oregonians have been forced to live with polluted water.
In response, our community-led movement has won free testing, emergency water, and the attention of the media, Governor, state & local elected leaders and industry.
We believe that when enough people come together, we can make the government work for us to enforce the law and hold polluters accountable.
THE PROBLEM
The Lower Umatilla Basin’s Pollution Problems
What’s in our water?
Two main chemical pollutants, Nitrate and PFAS, contaminate the drinking water. Both pose serious health risks.
What is the solution?
We are calling on the state and local officials to put rural people’s health before corporate profits! That means hold polluting industries accountable for the damage they’ve caused, and stop the pollution.
Who is polluting the water?
Industrial-scale agriculture, power plants and data centers are the primary sources of the chemicals in our water.
Is my water safe?
Free well water tests are available for those who get their drinking water from a private well in Morrow or Umatilla County.
How long has it been happening?
For almost four decades, most people in north Morrow and Umatilla Counties were never even warned about the health risk from the polluted water. The pollution is getting worse.

Put rural people’s health before corporate profits!
While Eastern Oregonians have been living with polluted water for almost four decades, corporate polluters were given the green light to expand without reducing the pollution.
No more excuses. We must make sure our water is safe, stop the pollution, and make polluters pay for the solutions — not taxpayers.

Water Pollution Resources
For decades, the public decision makers have failed to protect our groundwater, or address this public health crisis.
That’s why we stepped up to provide neighbors with tools and resources to understand the pollution, its reach and its health impacts, and access to free well water tests, filters and bottled water.
